Sunday thoughts about... the journey

The Vegas Golden Knights didn't get the result they wanted on Sunday as they watched their team get shut out, 3-0. All the credit in the world goes to the Carolina Hurricanes for having one heck of a team and imposing their defensive will on the Golden Knights.

But it is what it is. Why am I saying this, you ask?

Well, let's be honest for a second. Who would've thought that this Golden Knights team would come two wins shy of winning their second Stanley Cup? Who would've thought that after relieving their head coach of his duties and nearly missing the playoffs, the Golden Knights would get this far?

Seriously, this team didn't give up when they were faced with the overwhelming favorites in the Colorado Avalanche. They didn't give up when the Pacific Division title was nearly slipping from their hands. By the way, make that three Stanley Cup Final appearances whenever the Golden Knights win the Pacific Division.

So, I'm going to be honest with you. I'm not too mad about losing the Stanley Cup Final to the Hurricanes. They played an imposing style that stopped the Golden Knights from doing anything offensively. You saw that in Game 6 when Vegas couldn't get anything past Brandon Bussi.

Again, it is what it is. Carolina was the better team in the Stanley Cup Final.

With that, let's look at how the team can do win it all next season. They've got the pieces to run it back in 2026-27 and could use a home run trade to make it happen. If there's anybody who can make that happen, it's none other than Kelly McCrimmon.
